Sifted Snack Guide: Healthy Snacks that Fuel

Written by Jess Legge | Sep 13, 2018

Snacks are so often the double-edged sword in our food lifestyle: They keep us going when we need a pick-me-up, yet they can often be laced with sugar, sodium and artificial ingredients that do our health more harm than good.

What we all really want — and need — are clean snacks that sustain and support us as we tackle our work. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite snacks that are healthy, delicious and full of nutrients that will keep you fueled until you get to your next meal.

Date Energy Balls

Recipe at Detoxinista

Why we love them:

  • They’re one part snack and one part sweet treat.

  • There’s no added sweetner though — the dates do all the work.

  • They’re full of protein and fiber thanks to the nuts and coconut. This is what helps keep you sustained.

  • They’re vegan and paleo.

Square Organics Protein Bars

Why we love them:

  • No prep work needed. These ones are perfect for work, traveling or a post-workout energy boost.

  • You can get flavors that are low FODMAP & SIBO friendly.

  • They’re super allergy-friendly. They’re non-GMO, organic and gluten-, soy- and dairy-free. Plus they have a serious amount of sprouted plant protein in them.

  • Square Organics makes a quarterly contribution, based on net sales, to a leading anti-human trafficking nonprofit, Not For Sale.

Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas

Why we love them:

  • There’s literally nothing sneaky in this snack. It’s just organic chickpeas and sea salt.

  • We know this is a bold statement, but these may be even better than potato chips. Not to mention way less greasy. You get more crunch plus lots of fiber and 6 grams of protein per serving.

  • You can buy them in bulk and leave a bag at your work desk for a truly guilt-less savory snack. They also double as great lunch companions. Throw them on your salads, on top of homemade avocado toast or even on your baked sweet potatoes.

Sweet Potato Zucchini Tots

Recipe at Life Made Sweeter

Why we love them:

  • These are not your average tater tots. Including more veggies and none of the deep frying, they’re made with only 6 ingredients.

  • They’re vegan, gluten free, Whole 30-approved and paleo friendly.

  • Bake them ahead and take them with you to work along with a packet of your favorite dipping sauce.
